Fiji National University (FNU) College of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences second year student Shania Chaudhary was appreciative of being one of 14 second year tertiary students from the Western Division, to each receive a $10,000 grant this week.

Each of the students are pursuing their Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) programme.

Ms Chaudhary said this would ease the financial burden on her parents when she resumes her studies in March.

“I just completed Year 1 and now I’m going to start Year 2. This grant will contribute towards my fees for Year 2. I’m grateful to the Government for this initiative because it will help my parents ease the burden off their shoulders,” she said.

“I hope that this initiative carries on next year and the coming years whereby those with good marks, good grades can at least get this opportunity.”

The grant, which comes from the Government, is to help them pay for their tuition this year.

The recipients included seven students from the Fiji National University College of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences and seven students from the University of Fiji’s Umanand Prasad School of Medicine and Health Sciences.

They received their grant letters at the University of Fiji Saweni, Lautoka campus.
