As young as she is, 17-year-old Jiya Prasad is keen on helping children who are less fortunate than her.

Jiya is the youngest co-ordinator of the Nakasi Youth Club leading the group’s West team and has been involved with the youth club doing voluntary work for about two months now.

It has always been a dream of hers to reach out to those who are in need of help, especially children whose parents continue to face hardships when it comes to sending their children to school.

Jiya recently led her team in delivering stationary and school necessities to a number of children at Lomolomo, Lautoka.

“My aim as the West co-ordinator is to reach out to students in rural areas because I know the pain and the hardships students and parents face in order to get a proper education,” she said.

“If we provide the support to students in rural areas it will also benefit their community as the support will reduce theft and other crimes.”

Club’s president, Mohammed Shafil said Jiya was on a journey to becoming successful in the future.

“I am proud of my young team and Jiya is an example of how we, the future generation, can make a difference in this world,” he said.

The youth club members are set to continue their distribution of school items to needy students around the country.
