Court Remands TikToker For Bail Breach

TikTok commentator Anisa Khatoon Gwaizda, 61, was remanded in custody by the Nadi Magistrates Court yesterday.
She appeared before Magistrate Nirosha Kannangara after she breached her bail condition that was imposed by the court.
The court heard that between February 11 and 17, she posted a video directly and indirectly when strictly ordered not to be involved in social media.
Magistrate Kannangara ordered that she be remanded at the Namaka Police Station under the supervision of Border Police until her case today.
The accused begged the magistrate to pardon her and not send her to the remand centre.
“I don’t want to jeopardise myself all the way from Australia to come here and stay in the remand centre. It is not fair,” she said.
She told Magistrate Kannangara that she had posted videos again on social media only because her lawyer allowed her to do so.
“I asked my lawyer, Faizal Koya twice if I was allowed to go on social media, he said yes,” Gwaizda said.
In reply, the magistrate said that the court had to remand her because she had breached the bail condition.
“You have been objected to bail because you breached the bail strict condition, and this is the court order that you will be remanded for a day.”
She is charged with two counts of causing harm by posting electronic communication, contrary to section 24 (1) and (2) (a) of the Online Safety Act, 2018.
