Police Investigate Alleged School Brawl At Bus Stand

Police have beefed up their operations after concerns that officers are outnumbered by school students who roam the Suva Bus Stand after school.
Last Friday an alleged brawl between school students took place at the Bus Stand.
Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro said Police were in the process of identifying the students involved and gathering information on the alleged incident.
Deputy Police Commissioner of Police Itendra Nair said police were working towards increasing their manpower at the Police posts.
“The commanding officer at Totogo Police Station has also requested for additional manpower and that is through our Police Support response unit that we can assist,” he said.
“Then again we have our scholastic programmes whereby our community policing efforts will be utilised so that we can go to the Principals of the schools and other school teachers and how best we can proactively look into these issues.
“We are considering increasing our presence in patrolling these areas because this is a preventative nature.”
Suva Bus Stand kiosk operator Avinash Ram said the crowd high school students at the bus stand and the Suva market area could be uncontrollable at times.
“The Police Officers are usually outnumbered by the number of students here,” he said.
“The police are doing their work but the manpower has to increase.
He claimed that students would roam around with uniforms without a good reason.
