Naleba College is the first school in the Northern Division to be awarded a Gold medal for Health Promoting Schools.

The programme engages health and education officials, teachers, students, parents, health providers and community leaders in efforts to make the school a healthy place. This in partnership with the World Health Organisation and the Ministry of Health and Medical Services and Education ministry.

College Principal Sainul Nisha Ali commended the hard work from the students, teachers and the community.

Mrs Ali said while they’re very proud of the achievement, they had met all the criteria for the assessment such as hand washing, personal hygiene, healthy living, fitness, physical activity and the kids champion programme.

She hopes that all schools in Fiji would join Health Promoting Schools (HPS) as it would impact students’ lives positively.

“It is vital to include such programmes in schools especially during this pandemic, frequent occurrence of natural disasters, and the rise in cases of diseases such as leptospirosis and typhoid,” Mrs Ali said.

Health Promoting Schools North Coordinator Saimone Cabealewa confirmed that Naleba has progressed and was the first school in the Division to be awarded gold.

Mr Cabealawa said once the school meets the criteria and reaches the stage then they should maintain it.
