Match Stats Reveal Why Drua Not Scoring
If we learnt just one thing from the second weekend of this year’s Super Rugby Pacific, structure play is the missing link in the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua’s quest to score points.
While Drua dominated some areas of the game that got the stats ticking they failed to score the all-important points due to lack of game structure and management.
Despite their 42-3 loss to the Brumbies, stats boost their chances against the Melbourne Rebels, this Friday.
While there is room for improvement ahead of the competition the Drua can keep the Fijian flair at the same time get some go forward ball with structure play.
After the second game, our players will now have to adapt to the key game areas and familiarise themselves to the Drua set up and most importantly the Super Rugby competition.
A year away from the 2023 Rugby World Cup in France maybe it’s time to inject the Flying Fijians structure to the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua side.
In an early interview with SUNsports Flying Fijians head coach Vern Cotter pointed some key areas that structure play can be utilised.
“We don’t want to dictate one style but have teams develop their players and teams with their own identity, respect key fundamentals and most importantly enjoy the game,” he said.
“A couple of key areas will be set piece, discipline, kick strategy and work rate.
“They should set the standards in making sure that the players are able to raise the pace and tempo of the game.”
Adapting to these areas will enable fans to expect fast pace rugby, clinical executions mixed with try scoring opportunities and most importantly a hard and clean game of rugby.

Our game stats showed that the Fijian Drua side can score tries in their upcoming matches as they grow and improve.
As eluded by rugby commentator Andrew Swain it is time Drua stick to the basics, respect possession and re-learn how to play Super Rugby.
