Teachers of Suva Grammar School have taken the initiative to patrol the Suva Bus Stand terminal in the afternoons to ensure that none of their students are found loitering in town by 4.30pm.

This was after concerns were raised with the school and the Ministry of Education on students loitering in town after school hours with no valid reason.

Suva Grammar School Principal Iosefo Masivue said the school had a 4.30 rule that was strengthened when school resumed this year.

“We have a 4.30 rule meaning that by 4.30pm all Suva Grammar students should clear the bus stand and if they are still found at the bus stand and they are reported to school, we will call the parents and inform them that their child was still found in school uniform at the bus stand,” Mr Masivue said.

“If they have some responsibilities to at- tend to after school then they will need to get a pass from the school; the students know about that rule,” he said.

He said randomly the school would send teachers to the bus stand just to ensure that their students are out by 4.30pm.

“Recently there had been requests too from the Suva District office and from the ministry itself for us to monitor that area because it allows students to get into mischief when the rule is slack.

“So we have been tightening up on those loose ends.

I’m glad about Suva Grammar as I have noticed by half past four most students have gone home.”

He said Police presence had always been there however teachers were helping out in a way they could make a difference.
