Nicholas Veredali, the Fiji Police Force Baton of Honour recipient, epitomises the proverb “Behind every successful man lies a woman.”

For him, that woman has been his mother, Ana Mataki.

“It wouldn’t have been all easy if she wasn’t with me because without her support I cannot manage,” he said.

The top graduate dedicated his achievements to her.

The 25-year- old hails from Vuna Village in Taveuni with maternal links to Burebasaga Village in Rewa.

Mr Veredali addressed his mother as his Queen, saying that the morals and values instilled in him since he was a child are what have gotten him through to this day.

“I lost my father at the age of 10, so my mum brought us up single handedly and has played the fatherly role in my life,” Mr Veredali said.

“I am fortunate to call her my Queen in my life because she taught me that you can only treat a lady like a Queen if you are raised by a Queen.

“I am grateful for all the moral value she has taught me in life, the hardship we have gone through. I am grateful and honoured to have Ana Mataki as my mother.”

He was proud to receive the Baton of Honour Award for Batch No 62 for the Fiji Police Force.

Mr Veredali said the past four months was not easy.

He thanked everyone who had motivated him when things got tough.

“The journey for the past four months was not easy, and I thank all our instructors for everything they took us through as the whole squad. I am grateful to my squad Alpha for having my back through the 16 weeks,” he said.
He also thanked his partner who is four months pregnant.
