Acting PM Highlights Abuse Of Family Care Leave,
Acting Prime MInister and Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum

The Government introduced family care leave with a lot of faith that employees would not abuse it, says Acting Prime Minister Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum.

Speaking during a budget consultation at the Levuka Town Hall on Sunday afternoon, Mr Sayed-Khaiyum said some people were still abusing the leave.

He said if any adjustments were to be made to the days of the family care leave or the reinstatement of rural allowances, it would be delivered in the budget address.

Mr Sayed-Khaiyum said that while civil servants did not get a pay cut, the government made some adjustments along the way.

“As you know, family care leave was introduced a few years ago by the government, in recognition of the fact that there are times that people do need to stay away from work,” he said.

Mr Sayed-Khaiyum said whether it would be reinstated, the public should wait for the space.

“We’ll be able to deliver that in the budget if there’ll be any adjustments.”

The Fijian Government is expected to deliver a mini-budget on March 24.
