Trial For Alleged Cop Killer Starts Today

The trial involving a man accused of killing a Police Officer starts today in the High Court at Lautoka.

The one-week trial for alleged cop killer, Vilimoni Lalaobouma, was initially scheduled to begin yesterday.

The accused appeared before High Court Judge, Justice Sunil Sharma.

Lalaobouma was charged with the alleged murder of 24-year-old Police Constable, Siuta Niumataiwalu in 2019.

He was also charged with robbery, theft and serious assault.

It is alleged that on October 21, 2019, Lalaobouma took a kitchen knife and stabbed the late Constable Niumataiwalu, who attempted to apprehend him for allegedly assaulting and robbing a 52-year-old farmer along Yaweni Street in Lautoka.

Lalaobouma was represented by defence counsel, Jowen Singh while Unal Lal represented the State.

The trial is expected to commence at 11am today.
