Heavy Rain Alert Issued For Parts Of The Fiji Group

A Heavy Rain Alert has been issued for Western Vanua Levu (Bua, Nasau, Lekutu, Batiri, Dreketi, Seaqaqa) and Northwestern Vanua Levu (Labasa, Nadogo, Dogotuki), Northern Viti Levu (Tavua through Rakiraki to Dobuilevu), Western Viti Levu (Lomawai to Nadi through Lautoka to Ba), Western interior of Viti Levu (interior of, Ba and Nadroga- Navosa), Yasawa and Mamanuca Group.
This is due to a trough of low pressure that is anticipated to affect the Fiji group from the west later tomorrow.
Also, a moist north to northwesterly wind flow is expected to be prevalent over the group from tomorrow.
Showers increasing to rain tomorrow, becoming frequent and heavy from Friday over Western Vanua Levu (Bua, Nasau, Lekutu, Batiri, Dreketi, Seaqaqa) and Northwestern Vanua Levu (Labasa, Nadogo, Dogotuki), Northern Viti Levu (Tavua through Rakiraki to Dobuilevu), Western Viti Levu (Lomawai to Nadi through Lautoka to Ba), Western interior of Viti Levu (interior of Ba and Nadroga- Navosa), Yasawa and Mamanuca Group.
Occasional showers and afternoon thunderstorms is expected for the rest of the Fiji group.
Localised heavy falls may lead to flash flooding and overflow of drainage system in low lying areas, especially in low lying areas of Western Vanua Levu and Northwestern Vanua Levu, Northern and Western Viti Levu and the Western interior of Viti Levu.

Forecast Track Map for Tropical Depression 09F (TD09F) that was issued by the Fiji Meteorological Service National Weather Forecasting Centre at 12pm today, 2nd March, 2022.
Meanwhile, tropical depression 09F (TD09F) was located over open waters about 460 kilometers southeast of New Caledonia at midday today.
TD09F continues to move southeast and has a high chance of developing into a tropical cyclone in the next 24 hours.
TD09F poses no direct threat to the Fiji group.
