Newly Signed Lomani To Boost Drua’s Leadership Team

Flying Fijians halfback Frank Lomani has added depth and experience to the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua squad.
Lomani was released by his club Northampton Saints in London on Monday and immediately signed a two-year contract with the Drua.
Speaking to SUNsports yesterday Drua head coach Mick Byrne said Lomani’s inclusion is a timely one.
“Lomani has vast experience with 17 Test caps for the Flying Fijians and also played two seasons with the Melbourne Rebels in the Super Rugby,” Byrne said.
Explosive passes
“We are thrilled to have Frank in the squad and to have a fourth halfback for a specialist position is good for the side.
“He will not be available this week but hopefully in the next few weeks.
“Lomani had played 25 matches for the Rebels last season and that experience is important to the team.
“He is going to add depth in the leadership role in the team. Frank will spark this young Drua side with his explosive passes and game management.
“It is important to have some experienced players in the team.”
More game time
Drua halfback Leone Nawai and Simione Kuruvoli are nursing injury while Peni Matawalu is expected to start against Melbourne Rebels on Friday night.
It is understood that Lomani opted out of the Saints since he needed more game time.
He was the Drua’s vice-captain when they won the Australia National Rugby Championship (NRC) in 2018 and this led to selection to play for Fiji at the 2019 Rugby World Cup in Japan.
