No More Term Exams, Only Mid-Year And Annual Exams

The Ministry of Education has clarified that there will only be a mid-year examination and an annual exam in the 2022 academic year.

Education Minister Premila Kumar clarified that previously, schools would have three exams which were called term exams.

“Now we are reducing to two exams only from three exams, the two will be mid-year exams and annual exams,” she said.

She added the first term was a time for students to enroll and settle in their classes.

“There’s not enough teaching that takes place in term one and then we are using four weeks to prepare students for exams, sit for the exam, mark papers and then revision again,” she said

Mrs Kumar said  teachers would now solely focus on teaching in term one.

“We will only have two exams and that is mid-year exam and annual exam,” she said.

While speaking to students of Levuka Public School, Minister Kumar also stated that all external exam years would sit their exams in the 2022 academic year which begins in April.

“In terms of external exams, in 2022 all external exam classes will sit for their exam and that includes Year Six, Year Eight, Year 10, Year 12 and Year 13,” she said.

“For the external exams if you look at the terms, for 2022 we are going to close the year in December, so that means for Year 12 and 13 exams we are likely to have them, in November.”
