Teachers should never replace or swap Physical Education classes with another class.

This was the statement made by the Minister for Education, Heritage and Arts during a talanoa session with students of Levuka Public School yesterday.

Ms Kumar said it has been brought to her attention that some teachers were swapping or replacing PE classes with other subjects.

She said this should not be happening.

“I have seen in other schools that sometimes teachers they swap your PE class,” she told the students.

“That should never happen.”

She told the students to be her eyes and ears in the school if that was the case.

“If your sports period is taken away by any teacher you can complain to us,” she said.

“It is compulsory, and you must have your PE class

“PE class is not that you are given the ball and you go and play. It has to be done in a proper way and it should be reported well in your annual report.”

The minister ended her tour of Ovalau yesterday and had visited three schools on the island where she met with teachers, students, and the school management.
