Labasa Women Set Higher Football Goals

Digicel Women’s Interdistrict Football Champions, Labasa, are going for a double, as they turn their focus on the Digicel Women’s Super League title.
That starts tomorrow against Rewa in the opening Super League clash at Subrail Park. The encounter kicks off at 11.30am.
The Babasiga Lionesses are brimming with confidence after they snatched the IDC crown from Ba, with a 4-0 thrashing in the final at the ANZ Stadium, Suva, last Sunday.
Speaking to SUNsports yesterday, coach, Arthur Simmons, said while the IDC victory was an achievement their focus now is to beat Rewa.
The wily coach has rated Rewa highly as they are a tough opposition.
“Rewa is a well-drilled team that defends strong coupled with their robust midfielders and attackers,” Simmons said.
“We still have room to work on in our attacking plays.
“Rewa has one of the best defences in the country.
“We had a tough encounter against them in the IDC semi-final.
“We need to be strong because they scored twice last week.
“We have gone back to the drawing board and analysed the replay of the final against Ba to address our weak areas and how fast we can turn them into strengths.”
The tournament’s top goalscorer, Cema Nasau, will lead the attack as Simmons believes she is an integral part of the Northerners quest for their first national league title.
“We have developed a winning culture and we are working towards becoming a consistent side each game out,” he said.
Simmons said although there were still some niggling injuries from the IDC tournament they will be ready to take the field tomorrow.
“Rewa will come in full force to revenge their defeat and they have a top coaching setup, we have to be careful as to how we approach the game,” he added.
