The bail variation application by TikToker Anisa Khatoon Gwaizda has been granted by the Nadi Magistrates Court.

Gwaizda appeared before Magistrate Peni Dalituicama.

The court heard the bail variation conditions were that Gwaizda deposit $2,500 as security, a stop departure be uplifted but she will submit her passport to the court when she returns and that she have one separate surety regarding her breach of bail and another separate surety for her substantive matter.

State lawyer Prenika Lata told the court that Gwaizda made partial admissions and that the bail variation security amount of $2,500 was not enough.

The court heard that the matter was also for plea and that Gwaizda had denied the charge of causing harm by posting electronic communication, contrary to section 24 (1) and (2) (a) of the Online Safety Act, 2018.

Magistrate Dalituicama asked defence lawyer Faizal Koya whether he would be filing a formal application to the Online Safety Commission.

Mr Koya told the court that he intended to do so, however he requested for a date before April in terms of Gwaizda’s availability as that was when Ramadan would start

Magistrate Dalituicama adjourned the matter to May 20 confirm whether the matter  will be referred to the Online Safety Commission.
