The Mineral Resources Department is expected to give due consideration to the concerns and conditions laid down by a landowning unit, over access to its land.

In a meeting between landowners and stakeholders at Namosi, landowners were told that since the State policy did not align with the Mining Act, the department would look into their concerns.

Regulations stipulates that the Government does not need the consent of landowners, but to consult and inform them instead.

The meeting, between Nabukebuke Village and Government stakeholders, discussed accessibility for mineral exploration by Namosi Joint Venture.

Namosi Joint Venture is prospecting for gold and other minerals,.

Their special prospecting license ends next year.

Some Concerns
One concern among landowners is about the absence of a map of the area.

Village spokesman, Petero Saunivalu likened it to constructing a house without a map.

However, the land survey team said the matter of issuing work licences for mineral exploration was not their responsibility.

Concerned landowners of Nabukebuke Village have issued the ultimatum that their conditions be met by March 14, to allow Namosi Joint Venture to continue its exploration exercise.

Mr Saunivalu called for a veitarogi vanua to establish boundaries within the province, to help align the work of all relevant Government departments.
