Dux Dedicates Award To Supportive Parents

Labasa Muslim College, Year 13 Dux, Asifa Hanif, dedicates her achievements to her supportive parents.
Despite the long day at their farm, Ms Hanif said her parents would stay up at night from 8pm to 1am to keep her company while she studies.
Ms Hanif, an Arts student, scored 357/400 in their annual exam and was awarded during the school prize-giving ceremony yesterday.
She said the dux award was a proud achievement not only for her, but her family because it represented her journey to becoming a school topper.
“It was not an easy one,” she said.
The 18-year-old said her parents made every effort to ensure that she had a comfortable studying environment.
“My parents would always accompany me in staying awake the whole night so that I don’t feel bored,” she said.
“When school was closed because of COVID, I was quite worried because of the change in learning environment and online learning,” she said.
Ms Hanif advised other aspiring students to believe and strive towards their academic goals and that nothing was impossible if the mindset and right dedication were put in.
“Every child needs supportive parents and I was fortunate in this regard as they always prioritised my education,” she said.
She was also the dux of the college in her Years 10 and 12.
Ms Hanif hopes to get above 350 marks in her Year 13 external exam and pursue a Bachelor’s Degree in Software Engineering at the University of the South Pacific in Suva, this year.
