Single Mom on a Mission

Amele Cava, 50, is on a mission to build a family home for her and her three children.
The single mother of Lomainasau Village in Tailevu was part of 67 seasonal workers that were farewelled by Minister for Employment, Productivity, and Industrial Relations Parveen Bala on Friday.
The workers would depart Fiji next week to work in several sectors of employment in Australia.
Ms Cava has worked in Fiji’s tourism industry for close to 20 years and believes that her experience would be of great benefit in the work she would carry out in Australia.
She will be employed at the Ayers Rock Resort in Australia for three years.
“I have been looking after my children single handedly for a long time, ever since they were little and I had divorced with their father,” she said.
“Now two got married and the youngest and my only daughter are still in university.
“The only reason that I am going to Australia is for my family, especially my youngest daughter.”
She said she also hoped to build a house for her and her children in the village when she returns.
“I want to ensure that my daughter completes her education and that she is able to be independent just like when I was raising all of them.”
Ms Cava had worked in Laucala Island Resort where she was the housekeeping department supervisor.
“Currently we live at my parents’ house, but my aim is to build a house for me and my children when I return.
“The seasonal workers scheme is an answer to my prayer, and I thank God for the opportunity.”
She acknowledged both the Fijian and Australian Government for the opportunity that would greatly benefit her family.
Her advice to young men and women was to make use of the opportunities available that they could greatly benefit from such as the Seasonal Workers Scheme.
“You will never get a chance like this if you don’t try, there are opportunities available and all you need to do is to try them out.”
