The Digicel national football team won their first international match after a two-year lapse in Doha, Qatar on March 10,2022.

A hat-trick from speedy striker Sairusi Nalaubu saw the Fijians wallop Vanuatu 3-0 in a friendly clash at the Qatar University ground in Doha.

Nalaubu was well-fed by 17-year-old midfielder, Nabil Begg and Kishan Sami.

Head coach Flemming Serritslev told SUNsports as coach the way they play mattered the most.

“I’m happy to see that we were able to do what we had practiced for two years,” he said.

“I’m satisfied with our performance as we were able to apply a fast game.”

Serritslev, however said, there were a few areas of concern that they need to work on before their Group B opener against New Caledonia on March 18.

“At the start we were a bit nervous with a few bad passes but after 15 minutes the boys settled down.

“Then we began playing fast football and our attackers excelled.”

The no-nonsense coach indicated that the players would undergo their recovery session before they turn their focus on New Caledonia.

“I don’t know much about New Caledonia but the best thing is to focus on our game and the players as well,” he added.

The Fijians are pooled with New Caledonia, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea.
