A total of $1.4million has been paid to private doctors by the Government.

Attorney-General and Minister for Economy, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum said the programme, which the Government implemented last year, was done so that not every person would visit the public hospital.

During the Revised 2021-2022 National Budget Consultations at Tavarau Primary School in Ba on Saturday, Mr Sayed-Khaiyum said one main focus for Government was to ensure certain areas of services were not stopped.

“Even though the economy has become very small, Government decided that we must ensure that certain things don’t stop so free education did not stop, social welfare payment did not stop,” he said.

“We have already paid $1.4million to private doctors. Why did we do that? because we did not want everybody going to the public hospital.”

He said so far the programme was going well..
