Abhinav Reddy says unlike most students, he did not study late at night.

Instead he planned his time effectively when studying for the Fiji Year 12 Certificate Examination in 2020.

Abhinav, 18, was one of 43 students who attended the Natabua High School award ceremony in Lautoka on Monday for recipients from the class of 2021.

“What motivated me was just seeing other people succeed, like famous people, former scholars, watching them getting their awards, that’s what motivated me that if they can, why can’t I,” he said.

With a total score of 387 out of 400, the former Natabua High School student won the overall Fiji Year 12 Certificate 2020 Exam Highest Scorer Award for English with a mark of 93 and his best three subject values of 99 in Mathematics, 96 in Biology, and 99 in Physics.

“Well most people think you have to wake up late at night and study, but to be honest I can’t go beyond 10pm. I just study a little bit every day but the main thing is to study every day so that’s what I did. I made short notes, I studied every day and it has paid off,” he said.

“This was something that I really wanted to achieve, I really worked hard for this and it’s like a dream come true to achieve this. I would like to thank God, my parents and I would like to thank my teachers as well for helping me to come to this level and attaining my goal.”

He hopes to pursue a Bachelor of Medicine Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) programme at the Fiji National University.

He dedicated his achievement to his parents, brothers, relatives and God.

“My advice to my juniors is just to study every day and believe in yourself. No one is smarter than you. If you work hard, you will achieve what I did.”
