We will come to you!

This was the assurance made yesterday by the Minister for Health and Medical Services, Dr Ifereimi Waqainabete, to senior citizens and bedridden Fijians living at Muanikoso Village, Nasinu, during a community outreach programme.

He told the village nurse to note down the names of people who were bedridden and the elderlies who needed assistance.

“We will come to you, which means that you will not have to worry about transportation problems,” Dr Waqainabete said.

“There are a few old people living in this area and I want their names to be noted so that our nurses and doctors will come and visit them instead of them coming to us.

“We must make sure that we fight Non-Communicable Diseases together so that we can have a fruitful life.”

The minister also commended the community for keeping their surroundings clean.

Resident Amalaini Ranadi thanked the ministry for their continuous support.

“It is good to see doctors and nurses visiting us, especially when we have a lot of elderlies who need medical check-up but can’t go because they do not have money for transportation and are bedridden,” Ms Ranadi said.

She feels that it would be ideal if the medical team visited them twice in a month.

“They used to visit us before COVID-19 and now they have started again with the relaxation of COVID protocols.”

Another resident, Ilaitia Koroi, 65, expressed his delight saying: “At times, I can’t go to the hospital because I don’t have money for transportation and to hear from the Minister that they will come to us means a lot.

“I, as an elderly, I am grateful that I will not have to worry about where I will have to get my fare from.”
