12 Men Who Allegedly Stoned Police Vehicles, Threaten Officers Fronts Court

Twelve men appeared at the Magistrates Court in Ba yesterday facing various indictable offences.

They are Metuisela Turagacati, Lui Daunivalu, Savenaca Lutunaseru, Samisoni Rakalokalo, Mitieli Kaicina, Luke Nacuva, Josua Tadumani, Seru Ratudradra, Marika Ratu, Ropate Natabua, Iliavi Solobeci and Penisoni Nanewa appeared before Magistrate Samuela Qica.

The accused in their 20s are facing various offences ranging from drunk and disorderly, serious assault, damaging property, criminal intimidation including breach of bail conditions.

Police prosecutor, Inspector Nitesh Kumar revealed in court that the accused persons who were all drunk at the time of the offence, allegedly stoned Police vehicles and threatened to kill the Police officers that were present at a Police Post in Ba.

The Police officers had to take cover inside the Police post.

Defence lawyer, Nazeem Sahu Khan told the court that all the accused persons were innocent and it was still unknown which person had thrown the stone.

Mr Khan mentioned that there was no evidence of serious assault further explaining that there was no reason for the accused persons to be bombarding the Police Post.

Magistrate Qica told the Court the accused persons would be remanded at the Natabua Corrections facility in Lautoka.

The matter has been adjourned to March 30 at the Magistrates Court in Ba.
