How Tailevu Women Fought Back To Hold Namosi

The Tailevu Women’s rugby team came back strongly in the second half to hold Namosi 19-19 in their ANZ Marama Championship opening clash at the ANZ Stadium on Friday night. In a thrilling encounter Namosi led 12-7 in the first spell, but Tailevu head coach Laisiasa Matanisiga said the impact players made the difference in the second spell.

The Tailevu Women’s rugby team came back strongly in the second half to hold Namosi 19-19 in their ANZ Marama Championship opening clash at the ANZ Stadium on Friday night.

In a thrilling encounter Namosi led 12-7 in the first spell, but Tailevu head coach Laisiasa Matanisiga said the impact players made the difference in the second spell.

“I told the reserves, to try and lift the momentum of the match and play until the final whistle and I’m proud they did,” Matanisiga told FRU Media.

 

“Even though we played comeback rugby but I’m proud of the girls because they are high school students.’

“Only three of them have been part of the team from last year and the rest are debuting in this game against Namosi.”

“I thank ANZ and the Fiji Rugby Union for this opportunity exposing the players to another level of rugby competition.”

 

What Happened: In the 17th minute, Namosi openside flanker Agnes Seru scored under the crossbar and converted by Wainikiti Vosadrau for a 7-0 lead.

However, in the 25th minute Tailevu second five eight Tokasa Muriceva scored and converted her own try to level the scores at 7-7.

In the 33rd minute, Namosi centre Lusiana Tareguci scored their second try for a 12-7 lead before the halftime break.

Namosi wing Virisila Radovu ran in another try, which was converted to extend their lead to 19-7.

However, Tailevu came back with their forwards leading their attack.

They scored two quick tries with one converted for a 19-19 draw.

 

U19 result: Tailevu 36-0 Namosi
