Seruvakula: Lucky To Be In Super W

The Rooster Chicken Fijiana Drua head coach Senirusi Seruvakula is confident they would continue on their momentum in today’s Super W clash against the Force at Leichhardt Oval in Sydney, Australia.
The Drua are firmly sitting on top of the Super W point standings with 10 points after wins over Melbourne Rebels 66-5 and Queensland Reds 27-12.
Their strong opponent in the round robin competition is expected to be from the NSW Waratahs side who are in second place also with 10 points but the Drua have a better points difference.
Seruvakula said the performance of the players have been improving.
“We are lucky and blessed especially in a World Cup year and we thank Rugby Australia for allowing us to be part of this event,” said Seruvakula.
“It took us nearly two years to have our first game and I was pleased with the way we played against the Reds and Rebels. We took out a lot of learning from it and worked on our mistakes before our next game.”
For the past 24 months, the Fijiana Drua side have been running through rugged terrains, the Sigatoka sand dunes, mountain hikes, canoeing, going through the Naboro obstacle course and the famous Togalevu Naval base mud run.
“These were the struggles and sacrifices these young women had to overcome in order to make the final cut of the Fijiana Drua team,” he added.
Seruvakula, understands the importance of the Super W championship and the positive effects it brings onto our shores.
“To be in this competition will lift the level of rugby back at home and a lot of girls that are growing up will be wanting to play rugby after we do well in this tournament,” he said.
Fijiana Drua No.8 Sereima Leweniqila highlighted the importance of the championship as a build-up towards the Women’s Rugby World Cup from October 8 to November 12.
“It’s really important because most of the girls that are playing in this team will try out for the Women’s Rugby World Cup so this is a good place where we will gauge ourselves against experienced players and how it feels to play in a competition such as this,” said Leweniqila.
“So it’s a good thing to come and play in the Super W championship and get us ready for the World Cup.”
The Rooster Chicken-sponsored Drua take on Force at 12.50pm.
