Proposal For More Technical Colleges: People’s Alliance

The People’s Alliance party leader Sitiveni Rabuka, has proposed the establishment of more technical colleges around the country, if his newly formed party is elected into office.

Mr Rabuka claimed that not all students in the country had the privilege to secure government scholarships and be employed in white collar jobs.

“There will be students who will become successful in their future technical careers without going through the government scholarship channel,” he said.

Mr Rabuka said technical training and other Technical Vocational Education Training programmes were important in the development of our workforce back in the 90s.

He said there was a need to open up more vocational centres to allow the less academic students to have an opportunity to enhance their technical skills and support the blue-collar industry.

Scholarship Scheme

Mr Rabuka said they would introduce a scholarship scheme where qualified students have to serve a bond term in the country.

He said this would be the only requirement students had to abide by and not worry about paying off scholarship debts.
