Cotter Tells Why He Is Visiting The Drua

Three Swire Shipping Fijian Drua players who have recovered from injuries could be considered for selection in Friday’s Super Rugby Pacific clash against the Rebels in Melbourne.

Fiji Rugby Union chief executive officer John O’Connor said, yesterday the players are prop Haereiti Hetet, utility backs Kitione Taliga and Tuidraki Samusamuvodre.

“They should be considered for selection,” O’Connor said.

Taliga is expected to play at full-back while Samusamuvodre could be considered for the No.10 jumper along with Teti Tela and Caleb Muntz.

Flying Fijians head coach Vern Cotter said, he would be joining the Drua for some time in Australia where he would spend time with assistant coach Glen Jackson, head coach Mick Byrne and HPU general manager Simon Raiwalui.

“I don’t want to be disruptive but to look at the process and get access to the players,” he said.

Cotter said he is looking for depth in the positions of first five eight, full-back, locks and props as well.

“The Drua has improved but there is a need for them to win.

“We’ll look at how to develop them technically so they could start winning.”

He indicated the Drua have talented loose forwards like Vilive Miramira who has a high work rate along with Kitione Salawa and Joseva Tamani.

“I’m also looking at Simione Kuruvoli to play at No.10. He has played there before but it’s good to see how he goes.

“I’m also happy with the progress of Kalaveti Ravouvou and Apisalome Vota along with Vinaya Habosi.”

Cotter will leave for Australia on Thursday.
