A Vunivau businessman in Bua Province will now meet the demand for bread after he was assisted by the Government last week.

Bakery owner Hirdesh Gupt was given an oven and assorted utensils by the Minister for Defence, National Security and Policing, Rural and Maritime Development and Disaster Management, Inia Seruiratu.

Mr Gupt said since the beginning of his business in 2015, he supplied bread to the Vunivau community, Nabouwalu in Bua and as far as Dreketi in Macuata.

“I have two employees and with the much needed extension support I can now employ more people,” Mr Gupt said.

“Minister Seruiratu must be commended for not forgetting people from small communities like me and my family.”

Mr Seruiratu said this Income Generating Project (IGP) was funded under the Ministry’s Self-Help Programme (SHP) in the current financial year at a cost of more than $17,000.

“The project aims to provide an income generating stream and employment for Vunivau settlement,” Mr Seruiratu said.

He said the programme’s objective would improve and enhance income generating capacity of the people, provide better service to the local communities and a source of employment to the rural people.
