A joint investigation by Police and fire authorities is underway to determine how a two-bedroom house on Taveuni Island was destroyed by fire on Tuesday.

The event occurred around 2pm in Matei, according to house caretaker Richie Singh, who was out at sea fishing at the time of the incident.

“The owner is in America and the house was given to another person to live in and take care of it,” Mr Singh said.

The National Fire Authority confirmed that they were conducting their own investigations. Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro said the caretaker’s residence – Talasiga Villa was destroyed with a Ford Range Twin Cab.
