39 Women Join Car Show In Suva

The Fiji Motorsports Association (FMA) held its Show N Shine Nationals after a lapse of two years.
A record of 151 sports cars participated at the Vodafone Arena in Suva on Saturday.
New sports cars imported into the country over the past six months were part of the show.
This year 39 women sports car racers participated in the Show N Shine Nationals.
FMA president Raizal Haniff said the unexpected turnout had encouraged them to stage a similar one in the Western Division.
About 1600 people came to view the spectacular display of some of Fiji’s top sports race cars.
“The women have joined this year in numbers and we are encouraging more to join us next time.”
“It was also good to see more women participate in this car show because FMA has always encouraged more women participation in car racing in Fiji,” he said.
“We also have separate categories for women. The 39 women car racers were from Suva, Western Division and other areas of Fiji.”
To encourage more participation from the younger generation into motorsports, FMA also put up a separate children category where non-motorized cars participated.
Mr Haniff said there were 14 non-motorized cars on the day.
