The Darold Kakasi captained- Ba football side fought back from a 1-0 deficit to beat Nadi 2-1 in the Digicel Premier League clash at Prince Charles Park, yesterday.
The win was Ba’s farewell gift to Kakasi, who is leaving for the Solomon Islands on Wednesday.
What happened: The home side took the lead in the 43rd minute from a William Valentine goal. He was set-up by another Solomon Islander, Jaygrey Sipakana, whose fancy footwork created the gap for Valentine to place the ball to the back of the net.
Nadi dominated play as had the services of Sakaraia Naisua, Sekove Finau, Josua Tawake, Serevi Waqa and Tuiba Batiratu.
Halftime: Nadi 1- 0 Ba.
Ba with veteran midfielder, Shamil Rao, Narend Rao, reliable defender Ilimotama Jese, Manasa Nawaikula and Kakasi began to take play into the Nadi territory.
Things began to work their way when midfield general, Malakai Tiwa, took the field and controlled play.
Tiwa replaced striker Savenaca Nakalevu and his presence lifted their game.
The tactical change quickly paid dividend when lanky Ba striker, Saula Waqa, slammed the ball past Nadi goalkeeper Veteri Dickson, for the equaliser.
In the 88th minute Ba defender Nawaikula tapped in their second goal.
Turning point: Tiwa’s arrival made the difference. The crafty midfielder used his experience to set-up his strikers and he also controlled the tempo of the game, which affected the Nadi players.
