Fiji Ports Is Finalist In Global Awards

Fiji Ports Corporation Limited Green Port Initiative has been selected as a finalist for the International Association Ports and Harbours (IAPH) Sustainability Awards 2022. Fiji Ports Corporation Limited Green Port Initiative has been selected as a finalist for the International Association Ports and Harbours (IAPH) Sustainability Awards 2022.

This is under the category, Climate and Energy.

In a release, FPCL Chief Executive Officer Vajira Piyasena said its Green Port Initiative was selected out of 238 projects submitted from 109 ports and 47 different countries.

 

The International Association of Ports and Harbours (IAPH) was founded in 1955 and has developed into a global alliance of 162 port authorities, including many of the world`s largest port operators as well as 127 port-related businesses.

Comprising 87 different nationalities across the world’s container traffic.

The World Ports Sustainability Programme (WPSP) was initiated in 2017 by the International Association of Ports and Harbours partners and has grown into the UN Sustainable Development Goals and integrating them into their businesses.

 

The WPSP Portfolio main aim is to be coherent and up to date on global database of port related projects on sustainable development.

Through the WPSP portfolio, ports worldwide and WPSP partner organisations, raise awareness on their ongoing work on sustainability, share their experiences and provide inspiration.

The Sustainability Awards has six main areas of interests, and they are Digitalization, Infrastructure, Health, Safety and Security, Environmental Care, Community Building and Climate and Energy.

 

“FPCL is delighted and extremely proud that the Fiji Ports Corporation Limited has been selected as a finalist for such a prestigious award,” Mr Piyasena said.

“The FPCL Green Port Initiative aims at improving efficiency and resilience of port operations and infrastructure, whilst reducing environmental and carbon footprints.”

“It is an integrated approach towards quality, energy and environmental management of ports and its operations and therefore a testimony to FPCL’s commitment to its five-year strategy plan in which Environment and Sustainability is a strategic goal.”
