Several youths and children in Natabua, Lautoka are now engaged in community projects.

Stating this, Ratu Aporosa Tagicaki says the projects help steer them away from criminal activities.

The Cagivou Youth Club coordinator said one of the recent projects they took part in was the cleaning of the Natabua Golden Age Home on March 26.

Together with Natabua Under 18-21 Rugby Club, the team also painted the Natabua community post.

“There was only one parent, six youths and five children, this is to get them away from crime, secondly, one major problem we have in Natabua is unemployment.

“The coordinator from the Old Peoples Home has in return offered positive feedback.

“By doing frequent charity works they can write a recommendation letter for some youths to be attached at the aged care centre and also if there is a possibility to apply to be caregivers.”

He also hoped to arrange for youths to be recruited under the seasonal workers’ scheme.

“We are also applying for the Vodafone ATH Funding on how to run a business,” he said.

He said while the Cagivou Youth Club was only in its second year of operation, there was a project earmarked for April to clean the Natabua Primary School.

“We are working with the Police community,” he said

“Another thing is negligence at home so we want to tell parents that there’s a purpose for these youths, we want to do this in the community first before we go outside.”

Natabua Under 18-21 rugby club coach Kelevi Tamata said such positive projects would impact youths to be optimistic.

“We come under Cagivou youth and we are also being engaged for this community work for this community post here in Natabua and to work with our youths to lessen robberies and some behaviour that doesn’t benefit the lives of the youths,” he said.
