‘Tourism still heeds COVID-Control measures’

Tourism Fiji says its members prefer to maintain COVID-19 safety protocols for guests and staff, despite measures to relax the rules.

This was revealed during a webinar hosted by Tourism Fiji for its stakeholders.

Tourism Fiji’s Chief Operating Officer, James Pridgeon, said the Care Fiji Commitment was a destination-wide assurance that Fiji was ready to welcome back travellers.

Confidence
Mr Pridgeon said the CFC was a programme developed to restore and increase consumer and trade confidence in travelling to Fiji.

He said it gave tourism industry friends the tools they needed to operate safely and be aligned with Fiji’s COVID-19 Safe Guidelines.

“Our vision is that the Care Fiji Commitment is visible to travellers’ pre and during their visit to give them absolute confidence that Fiji is ready to welcome back visitors,” Mr Pridgeon said.

“Some resorts continue to put on masks and it is entirely up to the business operators, as it is now optional.”

Fiji Hotel and Tourism Association chief executive officer Fantasha Lockington said hotel properties needed to continue testing their staff for the sake of their own records.

This would come in handy in the event of an outbreak amongst the staff should occur, she said.

The Ministry Commerce, Trade, Tourism and Transport said the idea behind the set-up of the portal was to be transparent.
