Tourism this season is making a great comeback for the industry as COVID-19-related travel restrictions are relaxed, says Tony Whitton.

This as Easter arrivals were showing strong growth, the managing director for Rosie Holidays said.

More interest was recorded from tourists in New Zealand, Australia and the USA, who were planning to travel to Fiji for Easter, he said.

“We have seen great interest, with families prepared to reconnect, and really find that happiness again,” he said.

The forecast comes in light of school holidays in Australia and New Zealand.

“This year (is) a very good year for Fiji Tourism,” Mr Whitton said.

Rosie Holiday, an inbound tour and transport operator that has served the industry since 1974, is a respected stakeholder in the tourism sector.

Mr Whitton said the company was slowly bringing people back to work.

“The Rosie Holiday side of the businesses is slowly being able to get back to 2019 numbers in our resort divisions, with a focus on North America, Australia and New Zealand,” he said.

“Most of our partners and employees are really delighted to be able to get back and have employment.”

Mr Whitton said precautionary measures would still be maintained as expectations build up to tourist arrivals over the Easter season.

“We can never underestimate this virus,” he said.

“Our protocols are still there.”

“We are still ensuring that even over the Easter season, we are still masking and taking precautions.”
