Identity Of Barara Flats Accident Victim Yet To Be Determined

Police have yet to establish the identity of a man who died in a road accident at Barara Flats, Lautoka yesterday.
In a statement Police confirmed receiving a report that a man was found lying motionless with visible injuries on the road.
A few metres away an empty vehicle was found off-road.
“Sabeto Police are investigating an alleged motor vehicle accident which claimed the life of a man this morning.
“The alleged incident occurred along the Queens Road near the Barara Flat after 3 am,” the statement read.
Police personnel were investigating and were searching for the driver of the vehicle.
“Anyone with information or may have seen or heard anything around the above-mentioned time is requested to call Crime Stoppers Fiji on 919,” the statement read.
A resident in the area, Avinashi Singh, had called for more road safety measures to be implemented along the Barara Flats stretch in Lautoka.
“We heard that it was an iTaukei man and that he is not from here. It happened at around 3am. Whether it was a hit-and-run, we do not know,” he said.
“Most community members are scared because it’s dangerous and there needs to be a foot crossing there because people rushing at speed to work, It’s a threat, especially for our school children.”
