Swire Shipping Fijian Drua head of Athletic Performance, Nacani Cawanibuka has applauded the Fiji National University following the opening of their new sports and wellness centre.

The Fiji National University Nasinu –based gym was commissioned yesterday by Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum.

Speaking from Australia in a recorded video, Cawanibuka said the facility will benefit sports science students as well as staff and communities.

“I would like to take this time to congratulate FNU for the opening state-of-the-art Sports and Wellness Centre,” Cawanibuka said.

“It has been a long time coming, surely those who were closely involved with the centre have looked forward to.”

Cawanibuka, whose father (Alifereti Cawanibuka) was a former principal of the then Fiji College of Advanced Education spent most of his childhood days at the now FNU Nasinu campus.

“Having grown up within the facility, the new state of the art gymnasium is a far cry from what was previusly there at Nasinu.

“To everyone who has put in the effort, the planning, the thought process and making sure that the project gets off the ground – a massive congratulation.

“The students, lecturers that will use this facility and the general public who will come in and be a part of the new centre, I’m sure they will enjoy world class facilities and resources that will help them not only in their education but also in sports, health and wellbeing.

“Fiji today needs to invest in health and education, in sport which bring smiles to many people and joy and I’m sure that centre is one that will bring Fiji a lot of good in the near future.

“I’m sure students will come through the sports programme, those that will use that facility to get fitter, to get healthier and to enjoy life and be productive.

“So to everyone who have put in the hard yards, and making sure all your sacrifices has now become a reality, congratulations to you all. So from the Fijian Drua we wish you well.”
