Despite the COVID-19 pandemic and the all-new home learning environment, 20 Early Childhood Education (ECE) students of Waiqanake District School Kindergarten graduated earlier this week.

Head teacher, Kamni Sharma said this would not have been possible without the support of parents and teachers.

“Since the school has a very poor network coverage, we gave worksheets every week,” she said.

“Our teachers did house to house visits in order to give the worksheets to the child and retrieved the worksheets back to see if they had attempted it because calling the parents to school would have increased the chances of COVID-19 cases.”

She said most children came from underprivileged families and they ensured that no student missed out on education.

“After visiting we came to know that most parents were not well-off and to justify that no child missed out, the worksheets were printed in school and given right at the doorstep,” Mrs Sharma said.

“ECE is the foundation of any education so if the education for ECE is solid then no one will stop them from progressing further.

“They embrace a new family when they are out of their homes where the moral values blend with education.”
