Daugunu In Tears, Scores Try In 50th Match

Winger Filipo Daugunu was in tears hours before playing his 50th match for Queensland Reds in the Super Rugby Pacific competition, where he scored a try as they beat Brumbies 21-7 on Saturday.
Earlier on, Reds officials showed a live video of Daugunu’s family members in Fiji, congratulating him on his achievement.
With a smiling face, Daugunu was taken by surprise when his aunty Litia Daugunu- Naiteqe entered the dressing room in Ballymore, Brisbane to present his jersey.
“This is his fifth season with the Reds,” head coach Brad Thorn told Queensland Reds website.
“It has been a long season and with COVID, he did not travel home (Fiji) to be with family and friends.”
Dad Kata Daugunu urged his son to be strong and to lift his game.
“You’ve reached a milestone in your rugby career. Behind me, is your village of Saqani and we always make sure to watch your every game with the Reds.”
Daugunu’s uncle Sailosi Naiteqe wished him all the best for his achievement.
“We’ll always keep cheering for you and we wish you all the best,” the former Fijian 7s and Flying Fijians forward said.
