Fiji Ports Corporation Limited (FPCL) has officially changed over the Suva harbour vessel traffic services to its new call signage “Suva VTS”.

The call sign hand over is part of the FPCL Vessel Traffic Management Systems (VTMS) project that is close to completion however yet still to being finalized.

As a major initiative by FPCL to move towards Smart Ports, FPCL implemented the Vessel Traffic Management System (VTMS) to improve the safety and efficiency of navigation at the Suva Harbour.

The changeover of the call sign from FPCL’s previous Suva Harbour Control to Suva VTS marks a milestone for the VTMS project and for FPCL.

This is a proactive commitment to fulfilling FPCL’s vision “To be the Smart Green Gateway for trade in the Pacific region.”

FPCL appointed overseas consultants AMS Group who has extensive experience in development and implementation of VTMS.

FPCL consultants AMS Group have been overseeing the implementation of the VTMS (Vessel Tracking Management System) equipment and
have been conducting the training of the equipment for the staff at FPCL.

FPCL representatives (pilot and controllers) had attended a two-day training covering (Vessel Traffic Systems and Vessel Control Systems) the use and application of the Vessel Traffic Management system.

The VTMS will help FPCL to monitor the movement within the harbour from the confinements of a closed indoors office with the use of sophisticated technology.
