New Supreme Court And Court Of Appeal Complex Based In Veiuto

Chief Justice Kumar said the court complex would have been opened in 2020 or 2021, however, due to COVID-19 and its variants, the Judicial Department could not do so.

New Supreme Court And Court Of Appeal Complex Based In Veiuto

Chief Justice Kamal Kumar opened the new Supreme Court and Court of Appeal courthouse at Veiuto in Suva yesterday. At the event, he said impartial, fair and efficient judiciary were the cornerstone of a democratic society.

The complex contains courtrooms which would be used for Court of Appeal, Supreme Court and Court of Appeal Registry.

It also had eight Judges Chambers, four Small Claims Tribunal and four referee rooms, staff training centre, Legal Practitioners Unit and ancillary facilities.

Chief Justice Kumar said the court complex would have been opened in 2020 or 2021, however, due to COVID-19 and its variants, the Judicial Department could not do so.

He thanked the Government for its commitment and vision in ensuring that the Judicial Department was provided with facilities that cater for department’s needs.
