New tentative trial dates have been set for SODELPA Member of Parliament, Salote Radrodro.

The initial trial dates were from April 30 to May 6, however, Anti-Corruption High Court Judge Justice Thushara Kumarage vacated the trial as a judge’s workshop fell in between the trial.

The new trial dates have been set from May 13 to 17.

Ms Radrodro was alleged to have falsely stated that her permanent place of residence was in Namulomulo Village, Nabouwalu, Bua Province, and allegedly obtained $37,920.13 between August 2019 and April 2020.

In the case of SODELPA MP Peceli Vosanibola, the Anti-Corruption High Court heard that the two-week trial might be cut short due to the agreed facts that would be finalised by Monday.

Prosecution also told the court that there could be an amendment to the information of the time, however, the other elements remained the same.

Mr Vosanibola was alleged to have falsely stated that his permanent place of residence was in Navuloa Village, Bureta, Ovalau, Lomaiviti Province and allegedly obtained $19,749.50 between August 2019 and March 2020.

Ms Radrodro and Mr Vosanibola were each charged by the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) with one count of false information to a public servant and one count of obtaining financial advantage.

It was alleged that the MPs breached the Parliamentary Remuneration Act of 2014 when they claimed travel and accommodation allowances, they were not entitled to.

The allegations were brought by the former Parliament secretary-general, Viniana Namosimalua.
