The new-state-of-the-art restaurant, Sails , has created jobs for 60 locals.

The restaurant is owned by JR Group and located at the Denarau yacht club at Port Denarau Marina.

It will be officially open for business on Saturday.

Speaking at the launch on Wednesday night, JR Group director, Jason Raj, said they had encountered an 18-month disruption but it was good to be finally opened.

Mr Ray said the restaurant was once a dream a few years ago.

“We came here on holidays many years ago,” he said.

“The renovation was challenging because the property was acquired right in the middle of COVID.”

Authentic Dining

Mr Raj said: “One of the things we think is missing in Denarau and broader Fiji for a restaurant is no one showcases fresh Fijian food in terms of the proteins.

“I am talking about the fresh fish, the fresh lobsters.

“We want to plate up something which is unique, which is fresh, which is locally sourced.

“We are running two fishing boats and we have got a team of fishermen who go out.

“We are working with some farming projects in some parts of Nadi through some local landowners in a subsidised arrangement with them, to be able to support local industry.

“The idea is to support the local supply chain to be able to serve fish and seafood in locations like this that showcases what is available in the ocean.”

They have 60 staff and is likely to increase according to the demand.

Fiji Airways executive manager Operations Control, Shalendra Maharaj, said the investment made by the Sails owner shows the pure confidence in the tourism industry to come back.

Sails opens daily from 7am to 11pm on Monday to Thursday, and 7am to 12pm on Friday to Sunday.
