Dr Waqainabete Corrects Prasad’s Chemo Drugs Claim

Minister for Health and Medical Services Dr Ifereimi Waqainabete has hit back at claims made by National Federation Party Leader Biman Prasad in Parliament yesterday.
While speaking on his motion to approve that the Standing Committee on Social Affairs undertake an inquiry into the causes of poverty and report back to Parliament, Mr Prasad claimed that the Ministry of Health and Medical Services was running out of chemotherapy drugs.
He further claimed apart from that, other support for cancer patients were lacking as there was no dedicated facility for this to be carried out.
He added that the Fiji Women’s Crisis Centre had to step in and assist cancer patients and survivors.
Dr Waqainabete yesterday said the claims made by the NFP leader were false.
“I want to correct something that the Honourable Biman Prasad had said, the Director Pharmaceutical Services has just texted me to say that the majority of the chemotherapeutic drugs are available,” he said.
“Except the very hard to find and source medicine, but these are not the ones that are used every day.
“This is the message from the Director himself.”
