It was third time lucky for Naitasiri when they finally beat Tailevu 35-20 during their Skipper Cup match at the Nakelo District School ground this afternoon.

Their fourth round win broke the prestigious INKK Farebrother trophy holders’ two year losing spells.

The bonus points from their win secured their place as leaders in the points table.

Highlanders’ head coach Ilaitia Tuisese despite the win said there was still a lot of work that need to be done.

“It’s good to get the bonus points win and at the same time get our revenge,” Tuisese said.

“Now we have to work on a few things before our next game,” he said.

“Tailevu gave a good game and we respect them for that.

“Now we have a week off so we will now shift our focus on next challengers Rewa.

What Happened

Naitasiri scored their first try from a lineout maul and scored through captain Sireli Kaloucava to take the lead 5-0.

Kaliova Mocetadra scored another try in the 12th minute – Naitasiri 10-0.

Tailevu replied with a try to centre Jioji Lalauvaki in the 20th minute of play which was unconverted 10-5.

Naitasiri was awarded a penalty try after Tailevu collapse the scrum in the 35th minute of play to extend their lead 17-5.

Winger Vatiliai Vosawale extended their lead with a try close to halftime 22-5.

Tailevu scored another try through Josaia Ravu with a conversation kick 22-15.

A quick backline move gave winger Saula Naicori an opportunity to score in the corner and increase their lead 27-12.

The Naitasiri backline broke the Tailevu defence to set up Luke Vosa for a try and extend their lead 35-17.

Tailevu scored a try to close deficit 35-20.
