In happier days: Rohini Lal pictured with her daughter, Jiya Jaanvi.

It’s almost two years since the murder of Jiya Jaanvi in her home Namara, Labasa.

She died from a single stab to her chest on July 2020. Young Jiya was found dead in a pool of blood behind the backdoor of their home.

Five suspects were questioned and released. Shine a Light had previously highlighted this murder case on  November 2020 titled “Mysterious death of 14-year-old Jiya Jaanvi”.

To date, Jiya’s mother Rohini Lal is still hoping that justice will prevail.

“I went to see Police in Labasa last month. They said they are still awaiting the DNA test results and the soil test,” Ms Lal said.

“They said the case file is still open and with the Police in Labasa and they are still looking into the case.”

Asked whether her defacto patrner, one of the suspects, still contacts her, she said “yes”.

“He still calls me to tell me that he is innocent.”

The late Jiya was a Year 9 student of Labasa College.
