Fiji In Tough Vancouver Pool, Singapore 7s Title In The Bag

The Fiji Airways Fijian 7s team are in a tough Pool A in this weekend’s Vancouver 7s in Canada.
This was after they stunned New Zealand 28-17 in the Cup final of the HSBC World Sevens Series’ Singapore 7s tournament on Sunday night.
The Tevita Daugunu captained-side now face USA, Kenya and England in Canada.
Two-time Olympic Games gold medallist Jerry Tuwai said it was great to be back in the series after nine-month break.
Daugunu said: “It was a very good final.
“We knew we had to keep the ball away from New Zealand and for most of this final we did just that.”
“The team stuck to the game plan perfectly and with it being Palm Sunday back home we hope this has made our family, friends and supporters happy.”
He also remembered the family of former Fijian 7s coach Peni Veidreyaki, who recently passed away.
The Fijians suffered a 21-12 loss to Ireland in their pool opener but bounced back to beat France 26-19 and Japan 62-0.
In the Cup quarters they edged Series leaders South Africa 19-12 and fought off a strong Australian challenge with a similar score-line.
