The $25 million state-of-the-art Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani Children’s Hospital is ready to be opened on April 27.

It is believed that this soon-to-be opened children’s heart hospital could possibly become the most important Pediatric Cardiac Centre for Fiji and the South Pacific Island countries.

The Pediatric Cardiac super specialty facility would treat and carry out life-saving surgeries on children born with Congenital Heart Disease (CHD).

All surgeries and treatments would be provided free of charge.

Fiji would be the first nation in the Pacific and Oceania region to have such a hospital.

Sai Prema Foundation director, Sumeet Tappoo, said the foundation was excited to have the opportunity to serve and save many lives of the children of Fiji and the Pacific.

“The reality is that we are losing many children, but this hospital will change the medical landscape of our nation and region in the field of pediatric cardiac care,” he said.

“Currently, there are no facilities anywhere in the Pacific for surgery and treatment of children suffering from Congenital Heart Disease, and it is simply unaffordable for families to take their children overseas.”

“This hospital, which is an answer to the prayers of thousands of mothers, will perform all surgeries and treatments absolutely free of cost.”

Features Of The Facility
Despite the charitable nature of the project, the Sai Prema Foundation created a world-class facility with the aim of providing the best possible surgery and treatment to the children of Fiji and the Pacific.

The hospital houses state-of-the-art equipment for its Catheterisation Lab, Operating Theatre, Intensive Care Unit, Pre-Operative and Post-Operative Wards.

The Hospital also includes a Training Centre with technological capabilities for international Video Conferencing.

Renowned Surgeons And Specialists To Provide Services
Immediately following the official inauguration, Sai Prema Foundation would be bringing in a team of world-renowned surgeons and Pediatric Cardiac super-specialists from the United States and Australia who would begin operating on Fiji’s child patients.

A large global team of surgeons and highly-qualified medical professionals were involved in the planning and execution of this hospital and every single aspect of the hospital is in line with international standards.

Mr Tappoo said: “It is truly satisfying that this hospital is as good as any hospital in the United States of America, Australia or New Zealand.

“The children of our nation and the region deserve the very best treatment and a prosperous future, allowing them to be equal citizens so that they can contribute towards the welfare of our nation and the world.”

Heart Disease Is The Number One Killer Among Children: Mr Tappoo
“Heart disease is the number one killer among children and its high prevalence rate is of great concern,” Mr Tappoo said.

“Twice as many children die from Congenital Heart Disease (CHD) than from all childhood cancers combined,” he said.

“As of today, we have over 500 confirmed cases of heart disease diagnosed just through our Sai Sanjeevani Children’s Heart Screening Centre alone.”

“These numbers are staggering and of course very concerning.”
