Residents Cross River To Receive Food Hampers

With the assistance provided by Being Helping Hands Fiji, some unemployed families, including the sick and widows in Labasa are now able to observe the month of Ramadan.
Ramadan, which is observed for 30 days, started on April 4.
The non-government organisation’s Labasa co-ordinator, Shainaz Bano, said some recipients even crossed the river in Korotari, Labasa to collect food hampers.
Ms Bano said assistance was made possible through the donations provided by overseas sponsors.
“The founder of the organisation is Raazia Mohammed who is in Suva and over a period of two years we have supported so many people in Labasa,” Ms Bano said.
“It is not only during Zakat, but also post natural disasters, back to school, we are there to help those who have no form of financial support.”
One of the recipients, Jaminat Bi of Korotari, Labasa, whose husband was sickly and unemployed, was overjoyed.
“I have four children and I was thinking how to arrange food for Ramadan as this is important according to our religious calendar which cannot be ignored,” Ms Bi said.
